“Now, did I remember to put my swimming trunks on?”
Again you may ask why this is relevant. Just think back to when you were growing up and you saw these sights for yourself when you were on holiday with your parents. Watching them behaving in the manner that I have just described I’ll bet you were totally horrified at what you were witnessing.
You may even remember that you were trying to get the attention of a handsome boy or an attractive girl and when you finally plucked up the courage to speak to them how many of you reacted in this way to this question the boy/girl would ask. “Were they your parents I saw you with earlier?” and how many of you responded by saying this “Er no, I was lying on the sun lounger minding my own business when they came up beside me and started talking to me.” Why when we reach adult hood do we continue to embarrass our children, as our parents did before us?
I suppose some parents believe they have a right to embarrass their kids. I know my parents did. Some of the parents that were mentioned earlier probably didn’t know any better, displaying taught behaviour, as it were. This is almost a situation where the adult becomes the child and the child becomes the responsible adult.
But again is there a bigger problem when we behave in this manner? I believe there is. We inflict mental pain on our children which leaves mental scarring or baggage that they end up carrying around with them for the rest of their lives - believe me I know, and many others of you will probably understand too. We all like to have fun on holiday but does it necessarily have to include embarrassing ourselves while consuming all the food and drink we can manage until we become ill? The answer: no it does not!
Depending on where you decide to take your vacation, normally the sea is not too far away. If this is the case you will most certainly have a beach nearby. Think of all the activities you can do: jet skiing, cycling (with the added advantage of burning those all-important calories); site-seeing; pleasant walks and so on. The hotel will still be there when you get back; it won’t run away or close while you are out.
I can hear you now, “But it’s going to cost me money if I go out! I will have to buy things that are free in the hotel.” Yes, this may be true but in most instances I have come across the hotel will make up packed lunches for you to take out. But is it really that vital to you? Is your wallet that much more important than your health? Think about it!!
Did you know?
A two hour ironing session could burn 350 calories.
